After a lengthy, rigorous examination by the IRD (NZ tax department) and a vote in Parliament, last year Mercy Ships gained a special tax status attained by less that 1% of New Zealand charities. The sought-after ‘Schedule 32’ tax status allows Kiwis to receive a tax deductible receipt for every dollar donated to Mercy Ships in New Zealand.
