Aminata was bullied by the children in her village Aminata was bullied by the children in her village because she looked different and made a mess as she ate - because she was born with a cleft lip. She became withdrawn and would only nibble at food in hiding. Soon Aminata became malnourished, and by the time she was 8 years old she looked more like a 4-year-old.⁣
⁣
Aminata lives in Senegal, where health care is not accessible for many, so her family watched as their precious girl faded before their eyes; physically and emotionally.⁣
⁣
When the family heard about Mercy Ships on the radio, they took her on a journey to finally access free surgery to repair her cleft lip. ⁣
⁣
Today Aminata is no longer hiding from the world, she is smiling into the future - with a whole lot of sass! 😀⁣
⁣

Remember Paul Barnard? When he was just a toddler Remember Paul Barnard? When he was just a toddler he was badly burned as he tried to put out a fire. Ellen from #Waipu was one of the nurses who cared for him after his reconstructive surgery. ⁣
⁣
Ellen recalls, 'Paul's smile grew as he saw the healing that was taking place, and he started to regain use of his hands. With healing, his confidence grew. Very soon he was playing games with other patients and would wave as I walked past the ward.'⁣

Sweet Mariama's 6-year-old world became a confusin Sweet Mariama's 6-year-old world became a confusing mix of shadows when cataracts began clouding her sight. ⁣
