Ben Trotter

With over 1,500 meals served daily onboard, the Dining Room is the heart of hospitality here on the Africa Mercy. As a Dining Room Team Leader I have the great responsibility of providing servant leadership, training, and oversight as I work alongside the Dining Room team to ensure excellent

on-time food service hospitality. I oversee the entire dining experience onboard as we prepare and clean the dining area, and serve meals to volunteers and hospital patients, all while fostering a

team-culture of Christ-like loving hospitality.

Working in the Mercy Ships Dining Room is not just about feeding hungry volunteers and
patients; it is about nourishing hearts and souls with the love of the LORD
Jesus Christ, making the Kingdom of God manifest in the hearts of those we
serve.

Christ-like hospitality touches the lives of those who are in desperate need of hope and healing like nothing else can. We in the Dining Room seek to always emulate our LORD’s hospitality as he ministered to His disciples in washing their feet and in serving the Last Supper.

John 13:12-19 (KJV)

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for
you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a
messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things,
you will be blessed if you do them.

Matthew 26:12-17-30 (KJV)

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave
it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the new
testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Every messy table cleaned with a smile, every meal served with eyes of compassion, each and every one is a deep gesture of kindness in which we are being the very hands and feet of our LORD, creating a gospel impact that extends far beyond the Dining Room walls. We in the Dining Room not only serve sustenance for the body, but spiritual healing for hearts and minds who are in desperate need of the good news of our LORD Jesus Christ.
