Kim Kimpay

Hello lovely people.

As some of you are already aware, I have been recently accepted to volunteer onboard the Global Mercy Ship from August until October this year in Sierra Leone, West Africa.  The Global Mercy is the world’s largest NGO hospital ship in the world delivering vital, free surgeries to people in desperate need who do not have access to these lifesaving and life-changing surgeries. I am one of the nurses who will be working in the ships’ Intensive Care Unit, and I would greatly appreciate your help to get me there. Mercy Ship relies on a team of volunteer crew members who pay their own room and board, travel, and personal expenses to serve.

Over 93 percent of the population of sub-Saharan Africa does not have access to safe and timely surgery. Dedicated volunteers from all around the world are united in a mission to bring hope and healing to these communities. It’s a privilege for me to be a part of these highly passionate team where I can share my skills, knowledge and trainings.

Personally, growing up in a third world country, I’ve seen the inequality, inequity and inaccessibility of quality health care to the impoverished people and communities. I’ve seen the hardship firsthand, these were the reasons I started joining and volunteering in various medical and surgical missions in the Philippines during my early years of nursing practice. With my dedication and compassion in helping the least fortunate of the society, I want to continue this mission to the good people of Africa.

I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.”- Mother Theresa.

Sincerely,

Kim
